Eirik Haglund Woodhead, 63, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday evening at his
home after a long illness. Eirik was born and educated in Norway. As a young man he traveled extensively and after many trips to this country, he decided that he loved the United States enough to emigrate here and make this his home. His education and training was in the hotel and restaurant industry. He was a former manager at the Elmira and Corning Country Clubs and moved to Syracuse 30 years ago to be the manager of the Bellevue Country Club. He subsequently owned and operated a restaurant on the city’s west side for many years. He was employed by the Golub Corporation (Price Chopper) when he became ill.

Eirik [pronounced ‘eye-rick’] was a veteran, having spent six years in the United States Army Reserve where held the rank of E6 and trained troops in small arms and night fire. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Liverpool Syracuse Lodge No. 501. Eirik was also a member of the American Legion Valley Post.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Donna C. (Wegrzyn) Woodhead; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Christian Woodhead and Dr. Sara Beth (Bonacci) Woodhead; and his daughter, Laura Woodhead, all of Syracuse; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Terri and Dennis Behm; and niece, Amanda, of North Tonawanda. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rolf and Wenche Haglund of Fredrikstad, Norway; and his nephews, Terje and Lars; his niece, Heidi; and his extended family in Norway.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Whelan Bros Funeral Home, 3700 West Genesee St., Syracuse, NY. [on the northeast corner – formerly White’s Tavern]

There will be a Masonic Service at 5 pm on Sunday. Services and burial will be private.
